We are running a home for mentally disabled people in an anthroposofic way, some 20 kms west of Umeå. We have around 20 sheep, 10 chickens, a rooster and a lazy cat. A small vege garden and a lot of firewood chopping! Wwoofers are expected to help in all chores related to the site. That could be weeding, pruning, harvesting (depending on the time of year), fencing, cooking and household duties, general maintenance work, together with the residents or by themselves. We can offer a beautiful site, near the lake where you can swim (in the summer!) and really nice company! Both the residents and the people that work here are open minded, curious and excited to meet new people from all around the world!
We can host 1-2 Wwoofers during the period may-sep, and you will stay in a separate building on the premises. Meals shared.
Our gardening principle is non-certified organic, and the food is 75% organic. Vegetarians/vegans are most welcome!
Sheep Our sheep are kept mostly for company and their wool, which is sheared twice a year, in spring and in autumn.
Goats Our old swedish heritage goat "lappget" is very rare! In Sweden there are only about 30 left! She is kept solely for company and for some weeding.
Chicken Also our chicken are of a swedish heritage species, Bohuslän-Dals Svarthöna, kept for their eggs, of course, and their nice company.
Dogs Our mother dog, Satee is a formely spanish stray dog. We have adopted her and she is now a lovely and friendly companion to all of us living here. In april 2008 she had puppies and we kept one of them, Stoja. She is a beautiful, friendly and playful youngster...
Cats The old cat, finally, is an elderly gentleman who does his thing with the mice and rats...
And he is kept company by Elliothe, a young female, who use to accompany the dogs for a walk...
